ABOUT

I collaborated with London-based artist and designer Es Devlin to create a new interactive sculpture opposite Zeitz MOCAA in the Silo District in Cape Town, South Africa.

Es Devlin is known for her large-scale sculptural works that fuse technology and poetry and is known for such projects like the London Olympic Closing Ceremony and touring stage sculptures for Beyoncé and U2

The project explored the potential for a future global network of solar-powered pavilions specific to their locations, each one acting as a unique charging station for the mind of the driver.

I was involved in the creation of the films that were projected within the zoetrope and served as the senior editor and sound designer.

ABOUT

Beautiful News is a content platform that publishes one positive story every day of the year. They are dedicated to unearthing inspiring, uplifting, and authentic voices that reflect the good in humanity, as well as the beauty of destinations and our natural world.

Beautiful News launched in South Africa on 1 November 2016. Since inception, we’ve shared positive micro-documentary content at 4:14pm, in recognition of the moment that Nelson Mandela was released from prison.

In honour of his legacy, we are reframing our world for the betterment of nature and humankind.

We gather our stories by keeping a pulse on individuals and organisations that are making a positive impact through their ideas, actions, initiatives and contributions.

This diverse set of inspirational narratives collectively showcases humanity’s inherent goodness.

Beautiful News also developed two additional subcategories celebrating the diverse beauty of not only humanity, but also that of nature and travel as seen below.

ABOUT

WaterBear is the first interactive streaming platform dedicated to the future of our planet. It features award-winning content, a global network of over 75 non-profit partners and empowers members to take direct action to go beyond watching the content, to dive deeper, learn more and take action while watching.

What made this project particularly special is that it was mostly created and assembled during the global lockdown. Therefore some of the footage quality isn't the best as interviews were conducted over zoom with individuals from across the globe. Yet, despite these challenges, the team managed to pull together a vast collection of stories to inspire.

This was without a doubt one on of the greatest remote-working learning curves and a project from which I learned an immense amount.

I both edited and co-managed the team at Beautiful News as we created short-form inspiring and thought provoking content with the ultimate end goal of inciting viewers to take action and care for our planet.

ABOUT

“He sold everything to chase the wild.”

Tim Hulme sold his house, his furniture, and most of his camera gear to make way for the adventure of a lifetime: an overlanding journey across Africa, capturing stories of conservation, exploration, and life on the road.

With his fully kitted Toyota Fortuner – aptly named Jabari (Swahili for “Brave One”) – he set out on a six-month expedition through the continent.

The series follows Tim’s journey through some of the most remote parts of Africa.

ABOUT

A man who broke down barriers to become a surfboard shaper in South Africa

Growing up under the apartheid regime, Siya Cele was chased away from beaches, and consequently denied the opportunity to embrace all the ocean offers. This disparity can still be seen in South African surfing today. Siya's fascination with the sea remained strong and he was eager to start a career in surfboard shaping but was frequently turned away.

Justin Nel finally took Siya under his wing and things took off from there, honing his skills further under the tutelage of industry greats, Spider Murphey and Jasson Ribbink. But his employment removed him from spending time with his family. After the birth of his son, Siya decided to create his own business, establishing Hibiscus Blue Line Surfboards, on the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal.

With nearly 20 years of shaping behind him, Siya also donates boards to the local surf club, enabling the youth to foster their own relationship with the ocean.
